In honor of this month of love, this month’s favorites are all things that have helped and continue to help grow my relationship with my hubbs.
5 Love Languages Book by Gary Chapman
After reading about the different love languages, I felt like I understood so much more about my husband, myself and how our relationship worked. It taught me alot about how to love my hubby in ways that would be most meaningful to him. I’m a sucker for any kind of “test” or “quiz” and this book has one for each partner to take as well as discussion promtps to encourage talking through your new found love languages!
Love&Respect by Emmerson Eggrichs
Honestly, I need to reread this book because it has some awesome points. I believe there is also a study you can do along with your spouse and/or with a small group.
I found this blog about a year ago, and I love it. Ryan and Selena Frederick write about marriage issues from a godly perspective, and their honesty is refreshing. They are one of my go-to sources when I have a question or wondering how to handle something in my marriage. They also have some awesome quotes and pinnable images, so check them out!
I have not read her book, but it has great reviews. I stumbled upon her blog and instagram several months ago and have been very encouraged by her! She even shares daily prayers that encourage and hold me accountable to pray for my husband. (My hubbs also says her husband’s website/facebook page has some awesome stuff for the husbands: Husband Revolution.)
HGTV’s Fixer Upper – Chip and Joanna Gaines
I love Fixer Upper. I love the concept of the show – taking the worst house and making it into the best. But the thing I love the most is watching Chip and Joanna interact. They have been married 12 years and have 4 kids (and lots of animals!). They are Christians, but more than that they live out their faith daily. They are the most real couple on TV in my opinion! They don’t lie about their issues and they don’t hold things against each other. They can laugh and joke and pull pranks on each other, all while running a very successful business! Their relationship teaches me something every single time I watch the show! I’m sure that’s not what HGTV had in mind, but I can guarantee you it’s part of why this show has been so successful. They love each other and always put their family first. It’s awesome. So, go get yourself addicted to Fixer Upper!
(And, for more awesomeness check out Joanna’s testimony – it is a really cool story.
