Happy November!
I cannot believe we are already welcoming November and all that it brings! Don’t get me wrong, I love this time of year! It just seems like time is flying by.
Which is all the more reason to take an minute or two to enjoy each moment. There are all kinds of thankful and grateful challenges out there this month – posting something we are thankful for each day, taking a photo on instagram of things we are grateful for, etc. But by the end of the month, things always seem to taper off and we are left with the chaos of “I wants” “I needs” “I don’t have enoughs” as the Christmas gift bug bites.
What if we made it a habit to stop each and every day to not only think about but to put into writing at least one thing that we are grateful for – not just in November, but every month? What if our goal was to actually have an attitude of thankfulness every single day of the year?
Proverbs 4:23 says, “Be careful what you think, because your thoughts run your life.”
Negative thoughts breed negative lives, just as positive thoughts make for positive, life-filled days. What we think about and ponder in our hearts matters. And I think that by taking 1 or 2 minutes each day to meditate on what we are grateful for could be the first step toward changing our hearts.
I know that I need this challenge as much as the next person, so I created a little printable for myself (and you!) to use. I find that when I have a special place – whether a journal or a specific card – to record my thoughts, I am much more likely to keep up with it.
I printed a card for each day of the November, and I plan to print another set for December. I bought a cute little index card holder to place each of my cards in. The goal is to spend a moment solely on being thankful each day, then, on hard days I will have a whole pile of encouraging things to look back on.
As a Christian, this is one way to remember that God never leaves me or forsakes me and that He always has a plan. I love being able to look back and see His blessings – it helps me look to the future with expectation!
I hope you’ll join me in this Thankful Challenge, whether via a journal or by downloading the cards below. Do it with a friend, and hold each other accountable! You can even simply text each other what you’re thankful for each day! Whatever you do, don’t stop as November ends!
So…what are you thankful for today?
